District 9 S Neill Blomkamp Is Directing A New Alien Movie

Variety is reporting that Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9 and Elysium, will be heading up a new Alien movie distinct from Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus 2. It’s still very early for the project; no script exists, and the news comes weeks after Blomkamp confirmed that he had discussed the idea of a new Alien film with Fox.Blomkamp confirmed the news on Instagram:View full post on InstagramThe news doesn’t come as a total surprise: earlier this year, Blomkamp posted incredible concept art images to Instagram of an unauthorized version of a new Alien movie that he’d been working on. Forget Prometheus 2: space jockeys, aliens, and more might be coming backHitfix has confirmed that the new film isn’t a direct sequel to Prometheus — it will take place after the events in Prometheus 2. The Wrap has a bit more: Ridley Scott will produce this new Alien film, and Sigourney Weaver isn’t currently involved with the project (note that Blomkamp worked with Weaver last year in the upcoming robot movie Chappie, which will soon hit theaters). Earlier this month, Blomkamp told Uproxx that while Fox was ready to make the film, he wasn’t yet ready. He said:Speaking to Sigourney Weaver, when we were doing Chappie, she set off a bunch of thoughts in my head — I had come up with an idea that didn’t have Sigourney, it was a different idea.
