They are also used to strike and shape other tools and metal. These tools are handy because they are less likely to damage whatever it is they are striking, compared to heavier mallets and hammers. The wood acts as a shock absorber and takes most of the impact.The project shown above is an easy build for a beginning woodworker, and the satisfaction of using a tool you built yourself is hard to beat.
