LAS VEGAS–The first official announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show always belong to LG, which has a press conference at the early hour of 8am PST. Like many Korean companies, LG makes a wide range of products–from refrigerators to cell phones to TVs–so it tends to pack a lot of announcements into the allotted 45 minutes. Because of the early conference, LG got to be the first big player to announce a lineup of 3D TVs–the company will launch several models, as well as a 3D LCoS projector. LG also announced the world’s largest OLED TV at a whopping 15-inches diagonal, launching in the first quarter of the year for an as yet undisclosed price (read: expensive). New LG TVs will also have expanded online functionality through LG’s NetCast service–in addition to Netflix, CinemaNow and Vudu media streaming, LG sets will also allow for Skype calls directly through the set with a camera attachment. And it seems that last year’s one-upmanship battle over TV slimness continues with LG’s Infinia lineup of super slim TVs–only .92 inches thick.
