USA Today reports that Google and Mattel have partnered up to bring back the retro View-Master, which dates back to the 1939 World’s Fair. The new View-Master requires a smartphone running a new Mattel app to recreate the 3D effect of the the old toy. Slot your phone into the new device, look at what Mattel is calling its “360 degree photospheres,” and you’ll be able to explore locations like Eiffel Tower or Alcatraz Island in what looks like augmented reality.According to Ed Baig, Mattel’s app isn’t currently supporting video — it’s showing off immersive “experience reels.” Look for it to be available this fall. The View-Master unit will cost $29.99, and the reels will retail for $14.99.View full post on YoutubeMedia Platforms Design TeamThomas HoustonSite DirectorThomas Houston is the PopularMechanics.com Site Director.
